Judge Jesus Rodriguez’ extensive experience in family law, both as an attorney and as a judge, continue to be an invaluable asset for County Court at Law Number Five and El Paso families. He and his staff are dedicated public servants who work to ensure that the Court finds workable solutions for families, treats everyone fairly, and moves cases expeditiously without sacrificing quality review.
Family courts handle various sensitive issues including adoptions, divorces, child custody, and child support. County Court at Law Number Five assists in resolving disputes concerning family relationships and focuses on advancing the best interests of children who come before the court.
In 2022, Judge Rodriguez was named the Elected Official of the Year by the Rio Grande Council of Governments in recognition of his exemplary service to the region. The Rio Grande Council of Governments encompasses local governments in the region from Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Brewster County, Texas.
Judge Rodriguez served as the full-time associate judge of Family Court IV from 2007 through 2018, assisting three district courts with their family law caseloads. In 2019, the people of El Paso elected Judge Rodriguez to County Court at Law Number Five.
The El Paso Bar Association named Judge Rodriguez Outstanding Judge of the Year (2015-2016), a rare honor for an associate judge.
While in law school, Judge Rodriguez clerked for the El Paso Legal Assistance Society where he was inspired to help individuals who could not afford legal representation. In 1999, Judge Rodriguez began working for Jose Rodriguez in the El Paso County Attorney’s Office. He defended lawsuits against the County and its various departments, provided legal advice to Commissioners Court, and served as the supervisor for the Domestic Violence Unit in the County Attorney’s Office obtaining protective orders for victims of domestic violence.
Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Judge Jesus Rodriguez is one of nine children. His large, close-knit family taught him the value of family and hard work. Judge Rodriguez is a 1984 graduate of Bel Air High School and attended McMurry College in Abilene, Texas. After completing law school at Texas Tech University in 1991, he returned to El Paso and has been practicing law since.
Judge Rodriguez and his wife have dedicated their lives to raising and guiding their sons and grandchildren. If he isn’t at work, Judge Rodriguez is with his family. To instill in their youngest son the importance of giving back to the community, they supported him throughout his journey as a Boy Scout to become an Eagle Scout. In addition to being involved in his sons’ high schools as a band booster, football booster, and speaking at countless career days for area schools, Judge Rodriguez played trumpet for the San Antonio de Padua Church choir for over 20 years.
